Search Help
CRC’s database is dedicated to tracking nonprofits involved in political advocacy and the foundations (grantmakers) that fund them.
Searching Nonprofits and Grantmakers
You can search CRC’s database on nonprofits and grantmakers using either acronyms or full names. For example, typing the acronym PETA in the search engine will return “People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals” under “Closest Match.” Typing “People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals” will return that name under “Non-Profit Organizations.” Either search term will also return any publications that CRC has authored that deal with PETA.
You may also enter partial names. For example, typing “People for the Ethical” in the search engine will return any groups with the phrase “People for the Ethical” in its name.
Sometimes typing in a particular name will result in the search yielding a nonprofit with a name different than the one you entered. When this happens, it means that there exists a funding relationship between the two. For example, entering “Progress Unity Fund” into the search engine will yield “ International A.N.S.W.E.R.” The reason is that the Progress Unity Fund is the name of the nonprofit that funds International A.N.S.W.E.R. CRC has chosen to list this as International A.N.S.W.E.R. in our database since it is the organization with greater notoriety.
Searching Names
Entering an individual's name in the search engine will only yield news items and CRC publications where that person's name appears. It will not return nonprofits or grantmakers with which the individual is associated. CRC plans to add that feature to the search engine in the near future.
Users seeking further identification may review the publications in which the individual's name appears to see references to organizations with which they are associated. Enter the organization name into the search engine. |
