Weekly Top 5 for Monday, October 13, 2008Five Ways Environmental Extremism is Mucking Things Up This Week After last week's focus on the bailout, it is good to be back to the relatively less expensive world of climate change alarmism. Less expensive for now, at least, but given our new willingness to spend MASSIVE amounts of money, the alarmist will soon line up for even bigger handouts. Let's go to the list:
- We may nationalize banks this week, but why stop there? There is a suggestion this week in the New York Times that the government overhauls our food system - and if the government doesn't, then bad things will surely happen. Of course, this isn't a new suggestion, as the most radical of environmentalists have been suggesting this course for years. Read more about it on the Capital Research Center's Doom List , which highlights some of the best of environmental prophecizing over the years.
- The Center for Biological Diversity sued the army in July in order to force the army to relocate desert tortoises that were inconvenienced by army activities. The program was put on hold last Friday as the toroises were being slaughtered by coyotes after being moved. So far, at least 90 of the 670 tortoises moved are dead. I guess when the army kill tortoises, it is an environmental tragedy, but when the Center for Biological Diversity kills them, it is environmental justice!
- The Natural Resources Defense Council sued the U.S. Navy in an effort to protect whales and dolphins from the navy's use of sonar. Rather than taking efforts to prevent Pearl Harbor style attacks, the NRDC would prefer dolphins not suffer any discomfort. Maybe the NRDC will pay for the installation of laser beams onto the dolphins so they can protect our aquatic borders.
- B-List celebrity Heather Mills is desperately trying to stay in the spotlight by endorsing PETA's suggestion to Ben & Jerry's to replace cow milk with human breast milk in the production of ice cream. Unreal.
- State Environmental Watch would like to send its continued kudos to Paul Chesser and the excellent work he is doing to expose the University-Environmentalist-Media complex in the state of Maryland. Apparently, he's ruffling some feathers. Check out the comment, from a previous installment of this investigation, from Tim Wheeler, president of the Society of Environmental Journalists , defending his actions.
