CRC Staff Biographies
Terrence Scanlon, President Terrence Scanlon was named Capital Research Center (CRC) president and chairman of its board of trustees in 1994. Earlier, he was Vice President for corporate relations at The Heritage Foundation. His public career includes an appointment by President Ronald Reagan to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission where he served seven years, including service as chairman during President Reagan's second term. He holds a B.S. in economics from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He is married and the father of three adult sons, serves on several non-profit boards and is a frequent contributor for various newspapers, cable news networks and radio stations.
Robert Huberty, Executive Vice President and Director of Research Robert Huberty is Vice President and Director of Research at Capital Research Center. Before joining CRC in 1993, he served in several positions at The Heritage Foundation, which he joined in 1980 as editor of Mandate for Leadership, the well-known volume of public policy advice that was widely used by the Reagan Administration. Subsequently, he was Director of the Resource Bank (1983-91), where he acted as the Heritage liaison to conservative public policy organizations, and Director of Academic Programs (1991-93). Earlier, Robert was a research assistant to former President Richard Nixon, assisting on President Nixon's Memoirs (1978). He is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine, from which he received B.A. and M.A. degrees in American history.
Phil Brand, Director, EducationWatch Phil Brand joined CRC in June 2007 to direct EducationWatch, our program monitoring advocacy groups engaged in the debate over school choice and education reform. He is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with degrees in economics and political science.
Larry Farnsworth, Director, Communications Farnsworth directs CRC’s marketing and media relations programs. A vice president at Crosby-Volmer International Communications, Farnsworth provides public relations counsel to an array of private sector clients. He is a former deputy press secretary for Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL). Farnsworth received his B.A. in political science from California State University, Fresno.
Jill K. Lacey, Editor, Compassion and Culture Jill Lacey's work on charitable organizations and community service has appeared in numerous publications including the Detroit News, The San Diego Union Tribune and The Chronicle of Philanthropy. She is a graduate of St. Peter's College in New Jersey and has been with CRC since 1992.
Patrick Reilly, Editor, Labor Watch The editor of Labor Watch, Patrick Reilly was formerly executive director of Citizens for Educational Freedom, a national school choice advocacy group. He has bachelor's degrees in print journalism and political science from Fordham University and a master's degree in public administration from the American University.
Luke Lee, Office Manager Lee joined CRC in May 2007. He earned his B.A. in political science and economics at the University of Delaware and previously served as campaign field director for the grassroots lobby group Let Freedom Ring in Philadelphia. He oversees office operations and fulfills publications orders.
Christopher Krukewitt, Accountant Christopher Krukewitt oversees CRC accounts and office operations. A certified public accountant, he received a B.S. degree in business from Wake Forest University and an A.A.S. in accounting from Northern Virginia College.
James Dellinger, Executive Director, GreenWatch and StateWatch James Dellinger oversees CRC websites that track environmental and education advocacy groups. Before joining CRC in September 2005, he was the founder and executive director of Technology Education and Awareness, a non-profit dedicated to improving lives through hands on technology training. A native of North Georgia, he received his B.A. in History from the George Washington University in 2003.
Matthew Vadum, Editor, Organization Trends and Foundation Watch Formerly a CRC research fellow, Matthew Vadum is also a veteran journalist. During his seven years in the Washington bureau of The Bond Buyer, a daily financial newspaper based on Wall Street, he covered Congress, the Supreme Court, housing, and state and local finance. While a reporter for the Central Penn Business Journal in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he won an award for outstanding legal journalism from the Pennsylvania Bar Association for an article that focused on employment law. He holds an M.A. in American Studies from Georgetown University.
Gordon Cummings, Director, Development Gordon Cummings previously was Development Coordinator at the Cato Institute and subsequently worked at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute where he was on the staff of the Europe/Eurasia Advanced Area Studies program. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in English.
Jana Marie Erwin, Development Associate A native of Gilbert, Arizona, Erwin previously worked as an intern for the Capital Research Center, which published a paper she wrote in Organization Trends. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Marriage, Family and Human Development and from University of Arizona with a Masters in Public Administration. She works to increase donor support for CRC’s work.
